On Wednesday, March 1, Representative Steve Vaughan (House Transportation Chair) and I attended the Oklahoma Trucking Association’s Safety Awards Banquet at the Skirvin Hotel in Oklahoma City where we honored the top “heroes of the highway” in Oklahoma, those truck drivers who surpassed one, two and three million miles of safe driving.
This is truly an impressive feat when we consider that one million miles equals 40 times around the earth. That’s a lot of safe driving, and I truly honor and appreciate these conscientious drivers for their outstanding accomplishments.
The Oklahoma Trucking Association commended the professional drivers honored at last week’s ceremony, praising them for demonstrating the best in professionalism. They recognized the elite group as being among the safest Oklahoma professional drivers in the trucking industry. I was proud to congratulate Danny Byars of Oklahoma City as the Oklahoma Driver of the Year.
On Thursday, March 2, we observed the first Truck Day at the Capitol, when some of those same outstanding drivers were recognized on both the House and Senate Floors. Drivers who surpassed the two and three million mile marks who attended the recognition on the floor were: Carl Andrew and Thomas Bowen. The following professional drivers were also present: Carl Andrew, Danny Byars, Luther Harris, John Keel, Walter Behringer, DiAnna Ramsey, Terry (TJ) Conaway, Kenneth James and David Washman.
I salute these professional drivers and Oklahoma Trucking Association’s contribution to the safety on Oklahoma roads.
Until next time,
Senator Mark Allen
Senate Transportation Chair
