Spiro High School senior Bailey Walker served as a Senate page during the week of May 16-20, 2016 at the Oklahoma State Capitol. The Senate page program is for high school students in grades 11 and 12 who are at least 16 years of age. It allows young Oklahomans to see legislators at work and gives them insight into how government operates and how laws are passed.
Bailey exhibited a real desire to be of service during her week to page. Rather than waiting to be asked to perform various tasks, she came to our office every morning and asked us if there was anything she could do to help. She was courteous, warm and eager to help. I never saw her without a pleasant smile and friendly demeanor.
At the end of her week of service, Bailey wrote us a letter that said, “Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to serve as page this week. I have thoroughly enjoyed being engaged in the legislative process and assisting the senators. I now feel that I have learned more about this process. Thank you again for your kindness this week. I pray that God blesses you and allows you to be used for His kingdom.”
It was especially enjoyable to work with Bailey this week, and I am glad to hear she enjoyed the experience as much as I did. If you are interested in serving as Senate page next year, or know someone who is, more information can be found at www.SenatorMarkAllen.com.
Until next time,
Senator Mark Allen
