Senior Gideon Hallum of Muldrow High School was selected to serve as Senate page during the week of March 2, 2015 at the Oklahoma State Capitol. The Senate Page Program is for high school students in grades 11 and 12 who are at least 16 years of age. It allows young Oklahomans to see legislators at work and gives them insight into how government operates and how laws are passed.
Gideon wrote a letter of appreciation to our office in which he said, “I am very grateful that you have allowed me to be your page for the week. I believe that programs like these are empowering the youths of tomorrow. I have learned many things about the Oklahoma Legislature while here. This week has given me a drive to succeed, as well as a new dream to become a politician. For this I cannot thank you enough. Please continue leading our state down a better path, as you are. Once again, thank you for taking the time to let me be your Senate page.”
It was a really enjoyable experience to work with Gideon this week, and it is my pleasure to say that he conducted himself in a manner to prove the worthiness of his selection. Gideon’s name crossed my desk again this year when we were notified he is honored as a 2015 Academic All-State award winner. I am confident his future is bright, and it was my honor to have him serve as Senate page.

Until next time,
